Product Description
German coin 5 Mark Hindenburg with Swastika, Silver: Everything Else. Of course silver content can be tested for and verified. Authentic coinage relic from the infamous Nazi Third Reich. Only the 5 Reichsmark (90% silver) and 2 Reischsmark (62.5% silver) were minted from silver, and only through 1939. After that, the war effort took up silver supply and all coins were made of lesser metals including even iron. The swastika symbol was adopted onto the coinage in 1936, so only in years 1936-1939 can the swastika be found on a silver Nazi coin. A lions share of these silver coins were buried/hidden as Germany's war situation deteriorated. Many have been recovered and are increasingly being appreciated as valuable WWII collectibles, with a secondary function as genuine silver bullion. This 5 Reichsmark is slightly heavier than a U.S. silver half dollar. There has been some counterfeiting, guarded against by looking for the unusual edge inscription/decoration on the 5 Reichsmark (translates roughly as For the common good, not for the individual. The dark history of the Nazi Third Reich speaks for itself, yet adds to the value of the coinage of the fallen government.
