Birdcage Windsor Arm Chair Kit: Home & Kitchen. Height of seat 17 1/2. Windsor chairs have been made in America since the second quarter of the 18th century. At first, they were generally used as outdoor furniture. Later, they were found in both the simplest farmhouses and the largest estates, in every region of the country. Our chairs are copies of originals made in Boston, circa 1800-10. They are called birdcage inch Windsors because of the double bow in the crest. Windsor chairs are light in form, but rugged in construction. The seat is Eastern white pine. Turnings and arms are clear hard maple. Spindles and bows are wedged solidly together. Our furniture kits include all necessary glue, screws, hardware, sandpaper, and assembly instructions. The price of the kit also includes a sufficient quantity of our Medium Wiping Stain. Over the stain, a final finish is required. Your local hardware store can supply varnish (ask for satin or eggshell). Shown in Medium Stain. Height of back 35 1/2. Height to top of arms 26 1/4. Seat is 21 1/2 inch wide x 17 1/2 inch deep.
