The Colgate EcoSpring 2-in-1 dual firmness infant/toddler innerspring crib mattress is greenguard air quality certified and is ecologically friendlier than most mattresses. It is made with component materials that are high quality, natural, renewable, and sustainable. The mattress starts with a high quality 190 coil spring unit that has 6.0 (the lower the gauge number, the better) gauge border rods that provide extra edge support, firmness and durability. The all-important support pad (insulator) on top of the springs that prevents the cushioning layers from sinking into the coils is made of coir fiber that comes from coconut shell husks. Coir fiber is a better mattress support material than the support layer material found in most crib mattresses and even adult mattresses. Next comes two cushioning layers on each mattress side - non-allergenic, CertiPUR-US certified eco-foam made with plant oils replacing petroleum based oils and, a top cushioning layer of natural cotton batting that adds comfort without taking away firmness.
