While designed to bring out the best attributes of full-bodied red wines such as Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, the glasses also work excellently for beer and soft drinks. Riedel continues to impress the wine world with its innovative designs. The Tyrol line, released in 2007, adopts an intermediary position between the completely stemless O wine tumblers that set a national trend and Riedel's long-stemmed, more fragile beauties. Each Tyrol glass features a short stem, more of a foot really, that is half of a solid sphere, lending great stability and reducing breakage worries. Crafted in Bavaria of sparkling leaded crystal yet dishwasher-safe, Tyrol is perfect for a casual, more contemporary approach to fine dining at home. This set includes two Tyrol Cabernet glasses, the second largest in volume of the entire collection (only the Shiraz glass is larger). Each Cabernet glass holds a maximum capacity of 24-1/8 ounces and stands 6-1/8 inches tall. Out of a long 250-year history, the renowned Riedel glass company has been based in the Austrian state of Tyrol for 50 years now, hence the commemorative name of the new collection.
