The Tyrol line, released in 2007, adopts an intermediary position between the completely stemless O wine tumblers that set a national trend and Riedel's long-stemmed, more fragile beauties. Each Tyrol glass features a short stem, more of a foot really, that is half of a solid sphere, lending great stability and reducing breakage worries. Crafted in Bavaria of sparkling leaded crystal yet dishwasher-safe, Tyrol is perfect for a casual, more contemporary approach to fine dining at home. This set includes two Tyrol Syrah glasses, the largest in volume of the entire collection (the Cabernet is close behind). Tall and tulip-shaped, each Syrah glass holds a maximum capacity of 24-1/4 ounces and measures 6-1/2 inches in height. While designed to bring out the best attributes of rich, hearty red wines such as Syrah (known in Australia as Shiraz), the glasses also work excellently for ale and soft drinks. Out of a long 250-year history, the renowned Riedel glass company has been based in the Austrian state of Tyrol for 50 years now, hence the commemorative name of the new collection.
