Decorative Vase - Handmade and Hand Painted Free-Hand Style Birds and Flowers Carved Vase: Kitchen & Dining. The vase is for decorative purposes only. The Nicaraguan ceramic vases have a long tradition, which originated before the time of the Spanish Conquest. These beautiful handmade vases come from San Juan de Oriente, a small village near the colonial city of Granada, which has become the traditional center of ceramic art. Utilizing indigenous styles and methods which have been in use for more than 500 years and passed down from generation to generation, the artisans use hand tools and arduous techniques and designs to finish and decorate each vase, but each pottery piece is still handmade. Today, the handmade vase styles vary from pre-Columbian design to the more current free-hand form of etched birds, sea horses, geometric, and floral decorations; most vases use a carved delineation panel to accentuate the design with a textured background. Each vase is produced one at a time utilizing hand tools and methods which make each vase very special and an individual piece. Each vase is exclusive and is perfect for a fine pottery collector. The vases are not glazed inside thus they are not sealed to prevent water seepage, but most vases can be accessorized with plastic liners available in home improvement stores.
