Small Vintage Chinese Painting -Landscape Watercolor on Silk: Home & Kitchen. The art is hand painted on silk and mounted on course handmade paper with a brocade fabric boarder. The style and technique of these vintage Asian art works follow centuries old conventions in Chinese brush painting. The convergence of mountains and water is deeply symbolic in traditional Asian art. Chinese paintings owe as much to Taoism as they do to composition and artistry. Each painting is as much an expression of harmony and balance as it is a beautifully painted work of art. Concepts of Yin and Yang are played out in contrast of subject matter; the flowing water cuts through the solid mountains. There is a pull of energy between the two, a contrast of Chi. Each of our vintage silk paintings were originally painted in the mid 20th century and are from the Yangtze River Valley, where dramatic landscapes have inspired Chinese poets and painters for thousands of years. Each painting was done in the early to mid 1970s. This traditional method of mounting allows the painting to be displayed with or without a frame or matte board.
