Which Bible Translations Are The Best? KJV or NLT / NIV?

A lot of new Translations these days, like Thomas Nelson's NKJV or MacArthur Study Bible, Zondervan's NIV.. However, are these these the most ideal translations?

While Bishop TD Jakes and Joyce Meyer would go with the newer translations, I think the older are the best. This is not Joel Osteen's Books: Everyday is a Friday and Living in Favor, but rather scripture!

Here is my view on translations. Not simple, but here is best I can do:

1. Go with a literal translation. Best insurance that you have a good translation 9 times out of 10 will be better than anything else.
You can get leather bound, paperback or hardcover versions selling on Ebay or Amazon.

2. Have a English translation of the Septuagint handy (such as Brenton Septuagint, or just go with Douay-Rheims) and use it as a reference for Psalms and Proverbs, as many translations have some errors in these two books as a result of Masoretic problems.

3. If one reads the King James Bible, with the understanding of the original meanings of the words, they are doing quite well.
