Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ. For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily. And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power: (Colossians 2:8-10) This is the time of year when we seem to have the ‘Big Falling Away’. It’s what I’ve grown to call the action some people take when they come to our church and expect it to be just the same as all the corporate religious organizations they are used to, only to find out that we tend to run opposite of those. Many become offended due to our stand against the paganistic practices of Halloween, Christmas, New Years Eve and Easter. Some want their children involved in ‘activities’ instead of learning to sit still quietly and listen to God’s Word as it is preached. Still others want a pastor who will be aloof and not get involved in steering the flock in the right direction. I’m sure I could list a few more common reasons why the ‘Big Falling Away’ usually comes about but suffice it to say that it’s expected and I always hope that those who may be offended would just take a minute and think through the scriptures listed above. You see the problem that Christian churches have today is really the same as ever. Satan’s plan is to render the Christian as ineffective as possible. Therefore, when just a bit of misinformation can be sown, watered by a hireling shepherd and then fed to the sheep, it promotes a chain reaction of acceptance year after year, generation after generation. Pretty soon, we can swallow the lies of Christ-mass being a holy day (as would Easter), the Halloween time being just fun for kids and New Years Eve being that one time a year when it’s ok to let it all hang out! Kids are kids and should be tolerated to be separated from their pastor and their parents so they can learn games, songs and eat cookies-we wouldn’t want to bore them with the truth. Ladies, our congregation is small but growing. We need to wear the title of being Christians with a sense of joy. We have the perfect opportunity, especially while we are small, to gather together and serve the Lord with our all. Let us keep studying to show ourselves approved unto God and take charge of the truth so that our children can grow in holiness and love for one another. Let us be called ‘radicals’ if that is what comes- after all, we cannot be doubled-minded and serve our God.
