ANTHONY WOODCOCK - ON THE ONTOLOGICAL ARGUMENT.

You can not conceptualize God not existing

This is because the idea of God not existing would make the concept of God inferior to any other object. And, then, the term God would loose its meaning.

Kant is correct in that concept is separate from existence. However, that does not negate some of the concepts St Anselm introduced.

So, I am not proving here God exists. Rather, I am proving that based on conceptualizing, it is not possible for God not to exist.

So, Kant is correct, that you can not prove God exists with this argument of Anselm. As concept and existence are separate.

However, Kant is not correct in assuming that Anselm's argument has no relevency.

The fact of the matter is, Anselm proves that the concept of God not existing is inaccurate, according to basic logic.

    To make this clearer:

    1. Imagine the Ultimate Supreme Being. And attribute in your mind all the characteristics you would associate to an Ultimate Supreme Being.
    2. Now, imagine He does not exist.
    3. A question for you, "How can a being not be?"
    4. So, the concept of a Ultimate Being not existing is a contradiction.
    5. As it then is not a Being anymore.
    6. So, conceptualizing God as not existing contradicts itself.

But, as Kant said, this does not prove God exists. Rightly so. However, it does prove the concept of God not existing is incorrect.

So logic dictates that correct thinking is that God exists, but it does not prove God exists.

So your mind is constrained by this invisible force of logic and it would be a decent assumption to conclude God exists, as logic compells it.

Of course, you can forsake logic and believe as you desire.

As Kant has relieved you of the proof of God existing, but he has not relieved you of the logical necessity of you believing he exists.

If you still find the logical necessity of concluding God exists difficult to understand, consider this conceptualization below.

    In Practical Terms:

    1. Mountains can not be separated conceptually from its valley.
    2. Triangles can not be separated conceptually from its equal angles.
    3. God, with perfect nature, can not be separated conceptually from existence.
    4. Therefore, assuming logic is accurate, we know factually that God exists.

I hope that explanation makes it clear to you personally. If a person has motivation not to believe in something, he will find whatever proofs or theories to cling to by faith and will ignore those facts that do not "jive" with their viewpoint.

Be intellectually honest today and reject your crutch of agnosticism or atheism. You can have happiness and freedom in life with God. Christianity is not a list of rules for you to follow, but a relationship with God. The main idea is to love God and neighbor. Any rule that violates this concept is likely not one of God's rules. God is not a kill-joy as many assume.

As we see in life, those who treat us nicely and with love, we know are good. So, it is by love, you will know if they are followers of Christ. And those who do not show love, but rather hatred or a critical spirit, you know they are not following God.
