Having realized for some time the need of a treatise on the chronology of the Bible, which should be at the same time reliable, of a convenient size for reference, and which in point of price should be within the reach of every student; and finding after much thought and careful comparison, the work of Mr. Bliss to be the best, all things considered, we have decided to send forth a reprint of this valuable little work. The progress of knowledge in the time since this work was first published has made necessary the alteration, or transposition, of the author’s placing of some ancient events and dates, as for instance the time and events of the book of Esther, but no change has been made except upon the best of evidence. In other places where, in faithfulness to the original it has been thought best not to alter the text, foot-notes serve to set the points in a clearer light.
