HOW THE AUTHOR'S NAME WAS DISCOVERED
The name of the author of this book was not shown in the printed volume. This information was given to HDM by Bruce Olson of Springfield, Illinois, who wrote: "I also have a copy of The Life & Labors of Adam Clarke -- mine's the 2nd ed., printed in 1849. In volume 4 of A History of the Methodist Church in Great Britain (Rupert Davies, A. Raymond George, Gordon Rupp, Gen. eds., vol. 4 pub. 1988), there is one of the better bibliographies I've ever seen. Here's the listing they give for the title of the book you have (they list the author in brackets, as his name does not appear in the book): [Hare, John Middleton]: The life and labors of Adam Clarke, LL.D., second edition [revised], London: Longman, Brown, Green and Longmans, 1842, xi+416p."

As a matter of personal preference, I have Americanized and Modernized the spellings in this digital edition from the British English of 1834.

[Original Statement in 1834 about How to Purchase the Book -- Not Current]
Wesleyan-Methodists who may wish to purchase this work, must give their orders to Booksellers, as those Wesleyan-Methodist preachers who are agents of the Wesleyan-Methodist Book Room will not be able to procure it through that channel, the Book Committee having resolved that their Steward shall not advertise or sell it.
