Verse 14. Of gold by weight] The quantity of gold which was to be put in each article.
John Gill's Bible Commentary
Ver. 14. He gave of gold by weight for things of gold, for all instruments of all manner of service , etc.] Whatever was to be made of gold, David was directed by the Spirit of God what weight or quantity of gold should be made use of in making it, as appears from some following instances: silver also for all instruments of silver by weight, for all instruments of every kind of service ; so likewise whatever instruments or vessels, for the service of the temple, were to be made of silver, he had a direction from the Spirit of God what weight each was to be of, or what quantity of silver was to be used in it, and this he gave; according to Jacob Jehudah Leon f133 , the vessels of gold were 340,000, the vessels of silver 470,000, in all 810,000.
Matthew Henry Commentary
Verses 11-21 - The temple must be a sacred thing, and a type of Christ; it must be framed by Divine teaching. Christ is the true temple, the church is the gospel temple, and heaven the everlasting temple; all are frame according to the Divine counsels, and the plan laid in the Divin wisdom, ordained before the world, for God's glory and our good. Davi gave this pattern to Solomon, that he might go by rule. Materials wer provided for the most costly utensils of the temple. Directions wer given which way to look for help in this great undertaking. Be no dismayed; God will help thee, and thou must look up to him in the firs place. We may be sure that God, who owned our fathers, and carried the through the services of their day, will, in like manner, never leav us, while he has any work to do in us, or by us. Good work is likely to go on, when all concerned are hearty in furthering it. Let us hope in God's mercy; if we seek him, he will be found of us __________________________________________________________________
