SEV Biblia, Chapter 20:17
Y cuando él se acercó a ella, dijo la mujer: ¿Eres tú Joab? Y él respondió: Yo soy. Y ella le dijo: Oye las palabras de tu sierva. Y él respondió: Oigo.
John Gill's Bible Commentary
Ver. 17. And when he was come near unto her , etc.] As he did, upon the information of his men, that a woman on the wall had something to say to him: the woman said, [art] thou Joab ? she was willing to be satisfied that he was really the general, before she would impart her mind to him: and he answered, I [am he] ; the very person you ask after: and she said unto him, hear the words of thine handmaid ; though a woman, vouchsafe to hear what I have to say: and he answered, I do hear : am ready to hear, and shall patiently and attentively hear whatever may be spoken; which was giving her leave and encouragement to proceed.
Matthew Henry Commentary
Verses 14-22 - Justly is that place attacked, which dares to harbour a traitor; no will the heart fare better which indulges rebellious lusts, that wil not have Christ to reign over them. A discreet woman, by her pruden management, satisfied Joab, and yet saved the city. Wisdom is no confined to rank or sex; it consists not in deep knowledge; but in understanding how to act as matters arise, that troubles may be turne away and benefits secured. A great deal of mischief would be prevented if contending parties would understand one another. Let both sides be undeceived. The single condition of peace is, the surrender of the traitor. It is so in God's dealing with the soul, when besieged by conviction and distress; sin is the traitor; the beloved lust is the rebel: part with that, cast away the transgression, and all shall be well. There is no peace on any other terms.
