John Gill's Bible Commentary Ver. 2. But they said not on the feast day , etc..] The feast of the passover, and of unleavened bread, which was nigh at hand, and would be two days hence, when there would be a great concourse of people from all parts to keep it: and therefore they did not choose to seize him, and put him to death at that time, lest there should be an uproar of the people ; or among them, lest they should rise in his favour, and rescue him out of their hands; (see Gill on � Matthew 26:5�).
Matthew Henry Commentary Verses 1-11 - Did Christ pour out his soul unto death for us, and shall we think an thing too precious for him? Do we give him the precious ointment of ou best affections? Let us love him with all the heart, though it is common for zeal and affection to be misunderstood and blamed; an remember that charity to the poor will not excuse any from particula acts of piety to the Lord Jesus. Christ commended this woman's piou attention to the notice of believers in all ages. Those who honou Christ he will honour. Covetousness was Judas' master lust, and tha betrayed him to the sin of betraying his Master; the devil suited his temptation to that, and so conquered him. And see what wicke contrivances many have in their sinful pursuits; but what appears to forward their plans, will prove curses in the end.

Robertson's NT Word Studies 14:2 {Not during the feast} (me en tei heortei). They had first planned to kill him at the feast (#Joh 11:57), but the Triumphal Entry and great Tuesday debate ( this very morning) in the temple had made them decide to wait till after the feast was over. It was plain that Jesus had too large and powerful a following. See on �Mt 26:47.
