SEV Biblia, Chapter 1:27
cuando viniere como una destrucción lo que teméis, y vuestra calamidad llegare como un torbellino; cuando sobre vosotros viniere tribulación y angustia.
Clarke's Bible Commentary - Proverbs 1:27
Verse 27. Your destruction cometh as a whirlwind ] hpwsk kesuphah, as the all-prostrating blast. Sense and sound are here well expressed. Suphah here is the gust of wind.
John Gill's Bible Commentary
Ver. 27. When your fear cometh as desolation , etc.] When such will be the calamity that will occasion this fear, that it shall be like some desolating judgment, as famine, sword, and pestilence, which lays all waste: and such was the destruction of the Jews by the Romans; it not only laid Jerusalem and the temple waste, but the whole country of Judea. These are the “desolations” said to be “determined”, or “the consummation and that determined”, which should be “poured upon the desolate”, ( Daniel 9:26,27); and your destruction cometh as a whirlwind ; suddenly and unthought of, fierce, and boisterous, throwing down and carrying all before it: so the said destruction did; it threw down the walls and houses of the city of Jerusalem, and the temple, and its fine buildings, so that not one stone was left upon another not thrown down, ( Matthew 24:2); when distress and anguish cometh upon you ; as they did at that time with a witness, when Jerusalem was besieged by the Romans: what with the sword of the enemy without, and the famine within; together with the vast number of cutthroats and seditious persons among themselves; it was such a time of distress and tribulation as never was from the beginning of the world, nor ever will be, ( Matthew 24:22). Josephus’s history of those times is a proper comment on these words.
Matthew Henry Commentary
Verses 20-33 - Solomon, having showed how dangerous it is to hearken to the temptations of Satan, here declares how dangerous it is not to hearke to the calls of God. Christ himself is Wisdom, is Wisdoms. Three sort of persons are here called by Him: 1. Simple ones. Sinners are fond of their simple notions of good and evil, their simple prejudices agains the ways of God, and flatter themselves in their wickedness. 2 Scorners. Proud, jovial people, that make a jest of every thing Scoffers at religion, that run down every thing sacred and serious. 3 Fools. Those are the worst of fools that hate to be taught, and have rooted dislike to serious godliness. The precept is plain; Turn you a my reproof. We do not make a right use of reproofs, if we do not tur from evil to that which is good. The promises are very encouraging. Me cannot turn by any power of their own; but God answers, Behold, I wil pour out my Spirit unto you. Special grace is needful to sincer conversion. But that grace shall never be denied to any who seek it The love of Christ, and the promises mingled with his reproofs, surel should have the attention of every one. It may well be asked, how lon men mean to proceed in such a perilous path, when the uncertainty of life and the consequences of dying without Christ are considered? No sinners live at ease, and set sorrow at defiance; but their calamit will come. Now God is ready to hear their prayers; but then they shal cry in vain. Are we yet despisers of wisdom? Let us hearken diligently and obey the Lord Jesus, that we may enjoy peace of conscience an confidence in God; be free from evil, in life, in death, and for ever __________________________________________________________________
