SEV Biblia, Chapter 9:19
Tú, con todo, por tus muchas misericordias no los abandonaste en el desierto; la columna de nube no se apartó de ellos de día, para guiarlos por el camino, ni la columna de fuego de noche, para alumbrarles el camino por el cual habían de ir.
Clarke's Bible Commentary - Nehemiah 9:19
Verse 19. The pillar of the cloud departed not from them] µhyl[m mealeyhem, "from over them." I have already had occasion to observe that this miraculous cloud, the symbol of the Divine presence, assumed three different positions while accompanying the Israelitish camp: 1. As a cloud in the form of a pillar, it went before them when they journey, to point out their way in the wilderness. 2. As a pillar of fire, it continued with them during the night, to give them light, and be a rallying point for the whole camp in the night season. 3. As an extended cloud, it hovered over them in their encampments, to refresh them with its dews, and to keep them from the ardours of the sun.
John Gill's Bible Commentary
Ver. 19. Yet thou in thy manifold mercies forsookest them not in the wilderness , etc.] Where no supply could be had, if he had cast them off, (see Nehemiah 9:17), the pillar of the cloud departed not from them by day, to lead them in the way ; which, if it had, they would have been scorched by the heat of the sun: neither the pillar of fire by night, to show them light, and the way wherein they should go ; or otherwise they would have lost their way, and not have known which way to have gone.
Matthew Henry Commentary
Verses 4-38 - The summary of their prayers we have here upon record. Much more, n doubt, was said. Whatever ability we have to do any thing in the way of duty, we are to serve and glorify God according to the utmost of it When confessing our sins, it is good to notice the mercies of God, tha we may be the more humbled and ashamed. The dealings of the Lord showe his goodness and long-suffering, and the hardness of their hearts. The testimony of the prophets was the testimony of the Spirit in the prophets, and it was the Spirit of Christ in them. They spake as the were moved by the Holy Ghost, and what they said is to be receive accordingly. The result was, wonder at the Lord's mercies, and the feeling that sin had brought them to their present state, from whic nothing but unmerited love could rescue them. And is not their conduc a specimen of human nature? Let us study the history of our land, an our own history. Let us recollect our advantages from childhood, an ask what were our first returns? Let us frequently do so, that we ma be kept humble, thankful, and watchful. Let all remember that pride an obstinacy are sins which ruin the soul. But it is often as hard to persuade the broken-hearted to hope, as formerly it was to bring the to fear. Is this thy case? Behold this sweet promise, A God ready to pardon! Instead of keeping away from God under a sense of unworthiness let us come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need. He is a God ready to pardon __________________________________________________________________
