Early Christian Commentary - (A.D. 100 - A.D. 325) Anf-01 ix.vii.xxxiv Pg 3 Ps. civ. 30. He promised to drink of the fruit of the vine with His disciples, thus indicating both these points: the inheritance of the earth in which the new fruit of the vine is drunk, and the resurrection of His disciples in the flesh. For the new flesh which rises again is the same which also received the new cup. And He cannot by any means be understood as drinking of the fruit of the vine when settled down with his [disciples] above in a super-celestial place; nor, again, are they who drink it devoid of flesh, for to drink of that which flows from the vine pertains to flesh, and not spirit. Anf-01 viii.iv.cxxvi Pg 4 Gen. xxxii. 24; 30. and asserts it was God; narrating that Jacob said, ‘I have seen God face to face, and my life is preserved.’ And it is recorded that he called the place where He wrestled with him, appeared to and blessed him, the Face of God (Peniel). And Moses says that God appeared also to Abraham near the oak in Mamre, when he was sitting at the door of his tent at mid-day. Then he goes on to say: ‘And he lifted up his eyes and looked, and, behold, three men stood before him; and when he saw them, he ran to meet them.’2442 2442
Anf-02 vi.iii.i.vii Pg 19.1 Anf-03 v.ix.xxii Pg 13 Jer. i. 9. and again in Isaiah, “The Lord hath given to me the tongue of learning that I should understand when to speak a word in season.”8051 8051 Anf-03 iv.ix.viii Pg 14 Or, “speech.” The reference seems to be to ver. 23, but there is no such statement in Daniel. I make thee these answers.” Whence we are bound to compute from the first year of Darius, when Daniel saw this vision.
