SEV Biblia, Chapter 37:16
Tú, hijo de hombre, tómate ahora un palo, y escribe en él: A Judá, y a los hijos de Israel sus compañeros. Toma después otro palo, y escribe en él: A José, palo de Efraín, y a toda la Casa de Israel sus compañeros.
Clarke's Bible Commentary - Ezekiel 37:16
Verse 16. Son of man, take thee one stick] The two sticks mentioned in this symbolical transaction represented, as the text declares the two kingdoms of Israel and Judah, which vere formed in the days of Rehoboam, and continued distinct till the time of the captivity. The kingdom of Judah was composed of the tribes of Judah and Benjamin, with the Levites; all the rest went off in the schism with Jeroboam, and formed the kingdom of Israel. Though some out of those tribes did rejoin themselves to Judah, yet no whole tribe ever returned to that kingdom. Common sufferings in their captivity became the means of reviving a kinder feeling; and to encourage this, God promises that he will reunite them, and restore them to their own land; and that there shall no more be any divisions or feuds among them. To represent this in such a way as would make it a subject of thought, reflection, and inquiry, the prophet is ordered to take the two sticks mentioned above, to write on them the distinguishing names of the divided kingdoms, and then by a notch, dovetail, glue, or some such method, to unite them both before the people.
He did so, and on their inquiry, showed them the full meaning of this symbolical action.
Matthew Henry Commentary
God restores dried bones to life. (Ezek. 37:1-14) The whole house of Israel is represented as enjoying the blessings of Christ's kingdom (Ezek. 37:15-28)
Ezek. 37:1-14 No created power could restore human bones to life. God alone could cause them to live. Skin and flesh covered them, and the wind was then told to blow upon these bodies; and they were restored to life. The wind was an emblem of the Spirit of God, and represented his quickening powers. The vision was to encourage the desponding Jews; to predict both their restoration after the captivity, and also their recovery from their present and long-continued dispersion. It was als a clear intimation of the resurrection of the dead; and it represent the power and grace of God, in the conversion of the most hopeles sinners to himself. Let us look to Him who will at last open ou graves, and bring us forth to judgment, that He may now deliver us from sin, and put his Spirit within us, and keep us by his power, throug faith, unto salvation.
Ezek. 37:15-28 This emblem was to show the people, that the Lord woul unite Judah and Israel. Christ is the true David, Israel's King of old and those whom he makes willing in the day of his power, he makes to walk in his judgments, and to keep his statutes. Events yet to com will further explain this prophecy. Nothing has more hindered the success of the gospel than divisions. Let us study to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace; let us seek for Divine grace to kee us from detestable things; and let us pray that all nations may be obedient and happy subjects of the Son of David, that the Lord may be our God, and we may be his people for evermore __________________________________________________________________
