1:1 Now after 310 the death 4194 of Moses 4872 the servant 5650 of the LORD 3068 it came to pass, that the LORD 3068 spake 559 8799 unto Joshua 3091 the son 1121 of Nun 5126, Moses' 4872 minister 8334 8764, saying 559 8800,

1:2 Moses 4872 my servant 5650 is dead 4191 8804; now therefore arise 6965 8798, go over 5674 8798 this Jordan 3383, thou, and all this people 5971, unto the land 776 which I do give 5414 8802 to them, [even] to the children 1121 of Israel 3478.

1:3 Every place 4725 that the sole 3709 of your foot 7272 shall tread upon 1869 8799, that have I given 5414 8804 unto you, as I said 1696 8765 unto Moses 4872.

1:4 From the wilderness 4057 and this Lebanon 3844 even unto the great 1419 river 5104, the river 5104 Euphrates 6578, all the land 776 of the Hittites 2850, and unto the great 1419 sea 3220 toward the going down 3996 of the sun 8121, shall be your coast 1366.

1:5 There shall not any man 376 be able to stand 3320 8691 before 6440 thee all the days 3117 of thy life 2416: as I was with Moses 4872, [so] I will be with thee: I will not fail 7503 8686 thee, nor forsake 5800 8799 thee.

1:6 Be strong 2388 8798 and of a good courage 553 8798: for unto this people 5971 shalt thou divide for an inheritance 5157 8686 the land 776, which I sware 7650 8738 unto their fathers 1 to give 5414 8800 them.(unto this…: or, thou shalt cause this people to inherit the land, etc)

1:7 Only be thou strong 2388 8798 and very 3966 courageous 553 8798, that thou mayest observe 8104 8800 to do 6213 8800 according to all the law 8451, which Moses 4872 my servant 5650 commanded 6680 8765 thee: turn 5493 8799 not from it [to] the right hand 3225 or [to] the left 8040, that thou mayest prosper 7919 8686 whithersoever thou goest 3212 8799.(prosper: or, do wisely)

1:8 This book 5612 of the law 8451 shall not depart 4185 8799 out of thy mouth 6310; but thou shalt meditate 1897 8804 therein day 3119 and night 3915, that thou mayest observe 8104 8799 to do 6213 8800 according to all that is written 3789 8803 therein: for then thou shalt make 6743 0 thy way 1870 prosperous 6743 8686, and then thou shalt have good success 7919 8686.(have…: or, do wisely)

1:9 Have not I commanded 6680 8765 thee? Be strong 2388 8798 and of a good courage 553 8798; be not afraid 6206 8799, neither be thou dismayed 2865 8735: for the LORD 3068 thy God 430 [is] with thee whithersoever thou goest 3212 8799.

1:10 Then Joshua 3091 commanded 6680 8762 the officers 7860 8802 of the people 5971, saying 559 8800,

1:11 Pass 5674 8798 through 7130 the host 4264, and command 6680 8761 the people 5971, saying 559 8800, Prepare 3559 8685 you victuals 6720; for within three 7969 days 3117 ye shall pass over 5674 8802 this Jordan 3383, to go in 935 8800 to possess 3423 8800 the land 776, which the LORD 3068 your God 430 giveth 5414 8802 you to possess 3423 8800 it.

1:12 And to the Reubenites 7206, and to the Gadites 1425, and to half 2677 the tribe 7626 of Manasseh 4519, spake 559 8804 Joshua 3091, saying 559 8800,

1:13 Remember 2142 8800 the word 1697 which Moses 4872 the servant 5650 of the LORD 3068 commanded 6680 8765 you, saying 559 8800, The LORD 3068 your God 430 hath given you rest 5117 8688, and hath given 5414 8804 you this land 776.

1:14 Your wives 802, your little ones 2945, and your cattle 4735, shall remain 3427 8799 in the land 776 which Moses 4872 gave 5414 8804 you on this side 5676 Jordan 3383; but ye shall pass 5674 8799 before 6440 your brethren 251 armed 2571, all the mighty 1368 men of valour 2428, and help 5826 8804 them;(armed: Heb. marshalled by five)

1:15 Until the LORD 3068 have given 5117 0 your brethren 251 rest 5117 8686, as [he hath given] you, and they also have possessed 3423 8804 the land 776 which the LORD 3068 your God 430 giveth 5414 8802 them: then ye shall return 7725 8804 unto the land 776 of your possession 3425, and enjoy 3423 8804 it, which Moses 4872 the LORD'S 3068 servant 5650 gave 5414 8804 you on this side 5676 Jordan 3383 toward the sunrising 4217 8121.

1:16 And they answered 6030 8799 Joshua 3091, saying 559 8800, All that thou commandest 6680 8765 us we will do 6213 8799, and whithersoever 834 thou sendest 7971 8799 us, we will go 3212 8799.

1:17 According as we hearkened 8085 8804 unto Moses 4872 in all things, so will we hearken 8085 8799 unto thee: only the LORD 3068 thy God 430 be with thee, as he was with Moses 4872.

1:18 Whosoever 376 [he be] that doth rebel 4784 8686 against thy commandment 6310, and will not hearken 8085 8799 unto thy words 1697 in all that thou commandest 6680 8762 him, he shall be put to death 4191 8714: only be strong 2388 8798 and of a good courage 553 8798.
