King James Bible - Job 24:23

Though it be given him to be in safety, whereon he resteth; yet his eyes are upon their ways.

World English Bible

God gives them security, and they rest in it. His eyes are on their ways.

Douay-Rheims - Job 24:23

God hath given him place for penance, and he abuseth it unto pride: but his eyes are upon his ways.

Webster's Bible Translation

Though it is given him to be in safety, on which he resteth; yet his eyes are upon their ways.

VERSE (23) -
Ps 73:3-12 Jer 12:1-3

SEV Biblia, Chapter 24:23

Si algunos le dieron a crédito, y se afirmó en ellos ; sus ojos tuvo puestos sobre los caminos de ellos.

Clarke's Bible Commentary - Job 24:23

Verse 23. Though it be given him to be in safety ] The Vulgate gives this verse a singular turn: Dedit ei Deus locum paenitentiae, et ille abutitur eo in superbiam, "
God gave him space for repentance, but he has abused it through pride." This is by no means conformable to the original. I think the words should be translated thus: "He gives them (i.e., the guards) to him for security, and he leans upon them; yet his eyes are upon their ways." Though he have taken the guards, mentioned in the preceding verse, for his personal defense, and for this purpose he uses them; yet he is full of diffidence, and he is continually watching them lest they should be plotting his destruction. The true picture of an Eastern tyrant. Without are fightings; within are fears.

Matthew Henry Commentary

Verses 18-25 - Sometimes how gradual is the
decay, how quiet the departure of a wicke person, how is he honoured, and how soon are all his cruelties an oppressions forgotten! They are taken off with other men, as the harvestman gathers the ears of corn as they come to hand. There wil often appear much to resemble the wrong view of Providence Job takes in this chapter. But we are taught by the word of inspiration, that thes notions are formed in ignorance, from partial views. The providence of God, in the affairs of men, is in every thing a just and wis providence. Let us apply this whenever the Lord may try us. He cannot do wrong. The unequalled sorrows of the Son of God when on earth unless looked at in this view, perplex the mind. But when we behol him, as the sinner's Surety, bearing the curse, we can explain why he should endure that wrath which was due to sin, that Divine justic might be satisfied, and his people saved __________________________________________________________________
