SEV Biblia, Chapter 16:17
Tomaste asimismo los vasos de tu hermosura de mi oro y de mi plata, que yo te había dado, y te hiciste imágenes de hombre, y fornicaste con ellas.
Clarke's Bible Commentary - Ezekiel 16:17
Verse 17. And madest to thyself images of men] rkz ymlx tsalmey zachar, male images. Priapi are here meant, which were carried about in the ceremonies of Osiris, Bacchus, and Adonis; and were something like the lingam among the Hindoos. Herodotus, lib. ii, c. 48, 49, gives us an account of these male images: phcuaia agalmata neurospasta, ta periforeousi kata kwmav tai gunaikev, neuon to aidoion, ou pollw tew elasson eon tou allou swmatov. This was done at the worship of Bacchus in Egypt: and they who wish to see more may consult Herodotus as above. In this phallic worship the women were principally concerned.
Matthew Henry Commentary
Jerusalem like an unfruitful vine. If a vine be fruitful, it is valuable. But if not fruitful, it is worthless and useless, it is cast into the fire. Thus man is capable of yielding a precious fruit, in living to God; this is the sole end of his existence; and if he fails in this, he is of no use but to be destroyed. What blindness then attaches to those who live in the tota neglect of God and of true religion! This similitude is applied to Jerusalem. Let us beware of an unfruitful profession. Let us come to Christ, and seek to abide in him, and to have his words abide in us __________________________________________________________________
