Y quemaron a fuego la ciudad, y todo lo que en ella había ; solamente pusieron en el tesoro de la casa del SEÑOR el oro, y la plata, y los vasos de bronce y de hierro.

Verse 24. Only the silver, and the gold-they put into the treasury, &c.] The people were to have no share of the spoils, because they had no hand in the conquest. God alone overthrew the city; and into his treasury only the spoils were brought. This is one proof that the agitation of the air, by the sound of the people's voice, was not the cause of the fall of the city walls. Vessels of brass and of iron. - Instead of ylk keley, VESSELS, the Septuagint, in the Alexandrian copy, evidently have read lk col, ALL, with the omission of the y yod; for in ver. 19 they translate pav calkov kai sidhrov, ALL the brass and iron: but this reading does not appear in any of Kennicott's or Deuteronomy Rossi's MSS.
John Gill's Bible Commentary
Ver. 24. And they burnt the city with fire, and all that [was] therein , etc.] As Babylon the great, of which this city was an emblem, as has been observed, (see Gill on “ Joshua 6:20”); will be burnt with fire also, ( Revelation 18:8); only the silver and the gold, and the vessels of brass and iron, they put into the treasury of the house of the Lord ; (see Gill on “ Joshua 6:19”).

Verses 17-27 - Jericho was to be a solemn and awful sacrifice to the justice of God upon those who had filled up the measure of their sins. So He appoints from whom, as creatures, they received their lives, and to whom, a sinners, they had forfeited them. Rahab perished not with them tha believed not, Heb 11:31. All her kindred were saved with her; thu faith in Christ brings salvation to the house, Ac 16:31. She, and the with her, were plucked as brands from the burning. With Rahab, or with the men of Jericho; our portion must be assigned, as we posses of disregard the sign of salvation; even faith in Christ, which worketh by love. Let us remember what depends upon our choice, and let us choos accordingly. God shows the weight of a Divine curse; where it rest there is no getting from under it; for it brings ruin without remedy __________________________________________________________________
