SEV Biblia, Chapter 16:24
Y viéndolo el pueblo, loaron a su dios, diciendo: Nuestro dios entregó en nuestras manos a nuestro enemigo, y al destruidor de nuestra tierra, el cual había dado muerte a muchos de nosotros.
John Gill's Bible Commentary
Ver. 24. And when the people saw him , etc.] In the condition he was, blinded and fettered, of whom and of his great exploits they had heard so much: they praised their god; as Belshazzar did his, ( Daniel 5:4) in hymns and songs composed for them, the substance of which was as follows: for they said, our god hath delivered into our hands our enemy, and the destroyer of our country ; as he had been, by tying firebrands to the tails of three hundred foxes, and letting them go into their cornfields, vineyards, and oliveyards: which slew many of us ; thirty men at Ashkelon, more at Timnath, and with the jawbone of an ass at Lehi.
Matthew Henry Commentary
Verses 22-24 - Samson's afflictions were the means of bringing him to deep repentance By the loss of his bodily sight the eyes of his understanding wer opened; and by depriving him of bodily strength, the Lord was please to renew his spiritual strength. The Lord permits some few to wande wide and sink deep, yet he recovers them at last, and marking his displeasure at sin in their severe temporal sufferings, preserves the from sinking into the pit of destruction. Hypocrites may abuse thes examples, and infidels mock at them, but true Christians will thereb be rendered more humble, watchful, and circumspect; more simple in their dependence on the Lord, more fervent in prayer to be kept from falling, and in praise for being preserved; and, if they fall, the will be kept from sinking into despair.
