John Gill's Bible Commentary
Ver. 27. Then came to him certain of the Sadducees , etc.] That is, to Jesus, as the Persic version expresses it; and it was the same day, as Matthew says, on which the disciples of the Pharisees, and the Herodians, had been with him, putting the question about tribute to him: ( Matthew 22:16) which deny that there is any resurrection ; that is, of the dead; that there ever was any instance of it, or ever will be: this was the distinguishing tenet of that sect; (see Acts 23:8) and they asked him , the following question, after they had put a case to him.
Matthew Henry Commentary
Verses 27-38 - It is common for those who design to undermine any truth of God, to load it with difficulties. But we wrong ourselves, and wrong the trut of Christ, when we form our notions of the world of spirits by thi world of sense. There are more worlds than one; a present visibl world, and a future unseen world; and let every one compare this worl and that world, and give the preference in his thoughts and cares to that which deserves them. Believers shall obtain the resurrection from the dead, that is the blessed resurrection. What shall be the happ state of the inhabitants of that world, we cannot express or conceive 1Co 2:9. Those that are entered into the joy of their Lord, ar entirely taken up therewith; when there is perfection of holiness ther will be no occasion for preservatives from sin. And when God calle himself the God of these patriarchs, he meant that he was a God all-sufficient to them, Ge 17:1, their exceeding great Reward, Ge 15:1 He never did that for them in this world, which answered the ful extent of his undertaking; therefore there must be another life, in which he will do that for them, which will completely fulfil the promise.

20:27 {There is no resurrection} (anastasin me einai). Accusative and infinitive with negative me in indirect assertion. The Sadducees rally after the complete discomfiture of the Pharisees and Herodians. They had a stock conundrum with which they had often gotten a laugh on the Pharisees. So they volunteer to try it on Jesus. For discussion of details here see on Mt 22:23-33; Mr 12:18-27. Only a few striking items remain for Luke.
