Habla a Roboam hijo de Salomón, rey de Judá, y a toda la casa de Judá y de Benjamín, y a los demás del pueblo, diciendo:

Ver. 23. Speak unto Rehoboam the son of Solomon king of Judah , etc.] He is called king before, but of what tribe or tribes is not expressly said, only it is implied in ( 1 Kings 12:17) and he is only acknowledged king of Judah by the Lord himself: and unto all the house of Judah and Benjamin ; which made but one house, as before but one tribe, ( 1 Kings 11:36) and to the remnant of the people ; of the other tribes that might dwell among them at Jerusalem, and especially Simeon, whose inheritance was within the tribe of Judah, ( Joshua 19:1) saying : as follows.

Verses 16-24 - The people speak unbecomingly of David. How soon are good men, an their good services to the public, forgotten ! These consideration should reconcile us to our losses and troubles, that God is the Autho of them, and our brethren the instruments: let us not meditate revenge Rehoboam and his people hearkened to the word of the Lord. When we know God's mind, we must submit, how much soever it crosses our own mind. I we secure the favour of God, not all the universe can hurt us.
