King James Bible - 2 Kings 17:26

Wherefore they spake to the king of Assyria, saying, The nations which thou hast removed, and placed in the cities of Samaria, know not the manner of the God of the land: therefore he hath sent lions among them, and, behold, they slay them, because they know not the manner of the God of the land.

World English Bible

Therefore they spoke to the king of Assyria, saying, "The nations which you have carried away, and placed in the cities of Samaria, don't know the law of the god of the land. Therefore he has sent lions among them, and behold, they kill them, because they don't know the law of the god of the land."

Douay-Rheims - 2 Kings 17:26

And it was told the king of the Assyrians, and it was said: The nations which thou hast removed, and made to dwell in the cities of Samaria, know not the ordinances of the God of the land: and the Lord hath sent lions among them: and behold they kill them, because they know not the manner of the God of the land.

Webster's Bible Translation

Wherefore they spoke to the king of Assyria, saying, The nations which thou hast removed, and placed in the cities of Samaria, know not the manner of the God of the land: therefore he hath sent lions among them, and behold, they slay them, because they know not the manner of the God of the land.

VERSE (26) -
:24

SEV Biblia, Chapter 17:26

Clarke's Bible Commentary - 2 Kings 17:26

Verse 26. The manner of the
God of the land.] fpŤm mishpat, the judgment; the way in which the God of the land is to be worshipped.

John Gill's Bible Commentary

Ver. 26. Wherefore they spake to the king of
Assyria , etc.] In letters, or by messengers they sent unto him: saying, the nations which thou hast removed ; from different places before mentioned: and placed in the cities of Samaria, know not the manner of the God of the land ; taking Jehovah the God of Israel to be a topical deity, limited peculiarly to the land of Israel, whereas he was the God of the whole earth; a like notion obtained among the Syrians, (see 1 Kings 20:28) now they say they know not his “manner” or “judgment” f208 , the laws, statutes, ordinances, and judgments, according to which he was worshipped by the people of Israel: therefore he hath sent lions among them, and, behold, they slay them ; they perceived it was not a common case, nor could they impute it to any second cause, as want of food with the lions, etc. but the hand of a superior Being was in it: and they could think of no other reason, but because they know not the manner of the God of the land ; how he was to be worshipped; and because they did not worship him, and knew not how to do it, it was resented in this manner by him.

Matthew Henry Commentary

Verses 24-41 - The
terror of the Almighty will sometimes produce a forced or feigne submission in unconverted men; like those brought from differen countries to inhabit Israel. But such will form unworthy thoughts of God, will expect to please him by outward forms, and will vainly try to reconcile his service with the love of the world and the indulgence of their lusts. May that fear of the Lord, which is the beginning of wisdom, possess our hearts, and influence our conduct, that we may be ready for every change. Wordly settlements are uncertain; we know no whither we may be driven before we die, and we must soon leave the world; but the righteous hath chosen that good part which shall not be taken from him __________________________________________________________________
