Treasury of Scriptural Knowledge VERSE (12) - 2Ki 22:16 Da 9:12 Mic 3:12
SEV Biblia, Chapter 21:12 Por tanto, así dice el SEÑOR Dios de Israel: He aquí yo traigo tal mal sobre Jerusalén y sobre Judá, que el que lo oyere, le retiñirán ambos oídos.
Clarke's Bible Commentary - 2 Kings 21:12 Verse 12. Both his ears shall tingle.] hnlxt titstsalnah; something expressive of the sound in what we call, from the same sensation, the tingling of the ears. This is the consequence of having the ears suddenly pierced with a loud and shrill noise; the ears seem to ring for some time after. The prophets spoke to them vehemently, so that the sound seemed to be continued even when they had left off speaking. This was a faithful and solemn testimony.
John Gill's Bible Commentary Ver. 12. Therefore thus saith the Lord God of Israel , etc.] Who, though kind and gracious to Israel as their covenant God, is yet just and righteous, as well as he is a sovereign Being and Lord of all: behold, I am bringing such evil upon Jerusalem and Judah, that whosoever heareth of it, both his ears shall tingle ; it will make such a noise in the world, and be so horrible and terrible; and if, he report of it would be so dreadful as to make a man’s ears tingle, and his heart tremble, what must it be to endure it! ( Ezekiel 22:14 1 Samuel 3:11).
Matthew Henry Commentary Verses 10-18 - Here is the doom of Judah and Jerusalem. The words used represent the city emptied and utterly desolate, yet not destroyed thereby, but cleansed, and to be kept for the future dwelling of the Jews: forsaken yet not finally, and only as to outward privileges, for individua believers were preserved in that visitation. The Lord will cast off an professing people who dishonour him by their crimes, but never wil desert his cause on earth. In the book of Chronicles we read of Manasseh's repentance, and acceptance with God; thus we may learn no to despair of the recovery of the greatest sinners. But let none dar to persist in sin, presuming that they may repent and reform when the please. There are a few instances of the conversion of notoriou sinners, that none may despair; and but few, that none may presume.
