Treasury of Scriptural Knowledge VERSE (17) - Nu 26:55; 36:7
SEV Biblia, Chapter 21:17 Y dijeron: Que se salva la heredad de Benjamín, para que no sea una tribu raída de Israel.
John Gill's Bible Commentary Ver. 17. And they said, there must be an inheritance for them that be escaped Benjamin , etc.] The escaped are the six hundred men in the rock Rimmon; four hundred of them were supplied with wives, the other two wanted; and as there was an inheritance divided by lot to the tribe of Benjamin, to that tribe and to that only it belonged, and they must have it and no other; it now of right devolved on these six hundred men, and them only, and therefore provision must be made to increase their number, that they may occupy the inheritance they have a right to, rebuild their cities, till their land, cultivate their vineyards and oliveyards, and enjoy all the advantages of their possessions: that a tribe be not destroyed out of Israel ; but the full number of the tribes be preserved, and their inheritances belonging to them, according to the predictions of Jacob and Moses, and the assignment of them by lot unto them by Joshua.
Matthew Henry Commentary The Israelites lament for the Benjamites. --Israel lamented for the Benjamites, and were perplexed by the oat they had taken, not to give their daughters to them in marriage. Me are more zealous to support their own authority than that of God. The would have acted better if they had repented of their rash oaths brought sin-offerings, and sought forgiveness in the appointed way rather than attempt to avoid the guilt of perjury by actions quite a wrong. That men can advise others to acts of treachery or violence, ou of a sense of duty, forms a strong proof of the blindness of the huma mind when left to itself, and of the fatal effects of a conscienc under ignorance and error __________________________________________________________________
