También dije entonces al pueblo: Cada uno con su criado se quede dentro de Jerusalén, y hágannos de noche centinela, y de día a la obra.

Verse 22. Let every one with his servant lodge within Jerusalem] The country people were accustomed, after their day's labour, to return to their families; now being so formidably threatened, he obliged them all to sleep in Jerusalem, that they might be ready, in case of attack, to help their brethren. All this man's arrangements were wise and judicious.

Ver. 22. Likewise at the same time said I unto the people , etc.] That were at work upon the wall: let everyone with his servant lodge within Jerusalem ; every builder had a servant, or a lad, as the word signifies, to wait upon him, to bring mortar or stone, or what he wanted; and some of these builders, with their lads, came out of the country towns and villages in the morning, and returned at night; now Nehemiah proposed, for the safety of the city and its walls, that for the present they would lodge in Jerusalem: that in the night they may be a guard unto us, and labour on the day ; might help to protect them in the night, should they be surprised with the enemy, and be ready for their work in the daytime.
Matthew Henry Commentary
Verses 16-23 - We must watch always against spiritual enemies, and not expect that ou warfare will be over till our work is ended. The word of God is the sword of the Spirit, which we ought to have always at hand, and neve to have to seek for it, either in our labours, or in our conflicts, a Christians. Every true Christian is both a labourer and a soldier working with one hand, and fighting with the other. Good work is likel to go on with success, when those who labour in it, make a business of it. And Satan fears to assault the watchful Christian; or, if attacked the Lord fights for him. Thus must we wait to the close of life, neve putting off our armour till our work and warfare are ended; then we shall be welcomed to the rest and joy of our Lord __________________________________________________________________
