Douay-Rheims - Judges 20:36 But the children of Benjamin when they saw themselves to be too weak, began to flee. Which the children of Israel seeing, gave them place to flee, that they might come to the ambushes that were prepared, which they had set near the city.

SEV Biblia, Chapter 20:36 Y vieron los hijos de Benjamín que eran muertos; pues los hijos de Israel habían dado lugar a Benjamín, porque estaban confiados en las emboscadas que habían puesto detrás de Gabaa.
John Gill's Bible Commentary Ver. 36. So the children of Benjamin saw that they were smitten , etc.] Their forces broken and worsted, many being killed: for the men of Israel gave place to the Benjaminites ; at first, and made as if they were afraid of them, and so fled before them, which was only to decoy them to a greater distance from the city Gibeah: because they trusted unto the liers in wait, which they had set beside Gibeah ; that these would not only enter the city, and burn it, but meet the Benjaminites fleeing back to it, when they should turn upon them and smite them, and so cut off all that remained of them.
Matthew Henry Commentary The tribe of Benjamin nearly extirpated. --The Israelites' abhorrence of the crime committed at Gibeah, an their resolution to punish the criminals, were right; but they forme their resolves with too much haste and self-confidence. The eterna ruin of souls will be worse, and more fearful, than these desolation of a tribe __________________________________________________________________
