SEV Biblia, Chapter 20:13
Y fue que, cuando Dios me hizo salir errante de la casa de mi padre, yo le dije: Esta es la merced que tú me harás, que en todos los lugares donde llegáremos, digas de mí: Mi hermano es.
Clarke's Bible Commentary - Genesis 20:13
Verse 13. When God caused me to wander] Here the word µyhla Elohim is used with a plural verb, ( w[th hithu, caused me to wander,) which is not very usual in the Hebrew language, as this plural noun is generally joined with verbs in the singular number. Because there is a departure from the general mode in this instance, some have contended that the word Elohim signifies princes in this place, and suppose it to refer to those in Chaldea, who expelled Abraham because he would not worship the fire; but the best critics, and with them the Jews, allow that Elohim here signifies the true God. Abraham probably refers to his first call.
Matthew Henry Commentary
Verses 9-13 - See here much to blame, even in the father of the faithful. Mark his distrust of God, his undue care about life, his intent to deceive. He also threw temptation in the way of others, caused affliction to them exposed himself and Sarah to just rebukes, and yet attempted an excuse These things are written for our warning, not for us to imitate. Eve Abraham hath not whereof to glory. He cannot be justified by his works but must be indebted for justification, to that righteousness which is upon all and unto all them that believe. We must not condemn all a hypocrites who fall into sin, if they do not continue in it. But le the unhumbled and impenitent take heed that they do not sin on thinking that grace may abound. Abimelech, being warned of God, take the warning; and being truly afraid of sin and its consequences, he rose early to pursue the directions given him.
