SEV Biblia, Chapter 25:21

Y oró Isaac al SEÑOR por su mujer, que era estéril; y lo aceptó el SEÑOR, y concibió Rebeca su mujer.

Clarke's Bible Commentary - Genesis 25:21

Verse 21.
Isaac entreated the Lord for his wife] Isaac and Rebekah had now lived nineteen years together without having a child; for he was forty years old when he married Rebekah, ver. 20, and he was threescore years of age when Jacob and Esau were born, ver. 26. Hence it is evident they had lived nineteen years together without having a child.

The form of the original in this place is worthy of notice: Isaac entreated Jehovah, wta jknl lenochach ishto, directly, purposely, especially, for his wife. Ainsworth thinks the words imply their praying together for this thing; and the rabbins say that ""Isaac and Rebekah went on purpose to Mount Moriah, where he had been bound, and prayed together there that they might have a son."" God was pleased to exercise the faith of Isaac previous to the birth of Jacob, as he had exercised that of Abraham previous to his own birth.

Matthew Henry Commentary

Verses 19-26 - Isaac seems not to have been much tried, but to have spent his days in quietness. Jacob and Esau were prayed for; their parents, after being long childless, obtained them by prayer. The fulfilment of God' promise is always sure, yet it is often slow. The faith of believers is tried, their patience exercised, and mercies long waited for are mor welcome when they come. Isaac and Rebekah kept in view the promise of all nations being blessed in their posterity, therefore were not onl desirous of children, but anxious concerning every thing which seeme to mark their future character. In all our doubts we should inquire of the Lord by prayer. In many of our conflicts with sin and temptation we may adopt Rebekah's words, "If it be so, why am I thus?" If a chil of God, why so careless or carnal? If not a child of God, why so afrai of, or so burdened with sin?
