que salga delante de ellos, y que entre delante de ellos, que los saque y los introduzca; para que la congregación del SEÑOR no sea como ovejas sin pastor.
Clarke's Bible Commentary - Numbers 27:17
Verse 17. That the congregation of the Lord be not as sheep which have no shepherd.] This is a beautiful expression, and shows us in what light Moses viewed himself among his people. He was their shepherd; he sought no higher place; he fed and guided the flock of God under the direction of the Divine Spirit, and was faithful in all his Master's house. To this saying of Moses our Lord alludes, Matt. ix. 36.

Ver. 17. Which may go out before them, and which may go in before them, and which may lead them out, and which may bring them in , etc.] Which may lead them out, and go before them in war, and command them in battle and bring them in peace, having conquered their enemies; or these phrases only mean the administration of civil government among them, and diligence and assiduity in it, (see 2 Chronicles 1:10), unless it has any peculiar respect to the leading the people of Israel out of the wilderness, and introducing them into the land of Canaan: that the congregation of the Lord be not as sheep which have no shepherd ; and so wander about, having none to guide them into proper pastures, or to protect them from beasts of prey; which is to be in a most forlorn and distressed condition; (see Matthew 9:36).
Matthew Henry Commentary
Verses 15-23 - Envious spirits do not love their successors; but Moses was not one of these. We should concern ourselves, both in our prayers and in ou endeavours, for the rising generation, that religion may be maintaine and advanced, when we are in our graves. God appoints a successor, eve Joshua; who had signalized himself by his courage in fighting Amalek his humility in ministering to Moses, and his faith and sincerity i witnessing against the report of the evil spies. This man God appoint to succeed Moses; a man in whom is the Spirit, the Spirit of grace. He is a good man, fearing God and hating covetousness, and acting from principle. He has the spirit of government; he is fit to do the wor and discharge the trusts of his place. He has a spirit of conduct an courage; he had also the Spirit of prophecy. That man is not full qualified for any service in the church of Christ, who is destitute of the graces and gifts of the Holy Spirit, whatever human abilities he may possess. And in Joshua's succession we are reminded "that the la was given by Moses," who by reason of our transgression could not brin us to heaven; but "grace and truth came by Jesus Christ," for the salvation of every believer __________________________________________________________________
