King James Bible - 2 Kings 19:29

And this shall be a sign unto thee, Ye shall eat this year such things as grow of themselves, and in the second year that which springeth of the same; and in the third year sow ye, and reap, and plant vineyards, and eat the fruits thereof.

World English Bible

"'This shall be the sign to you: You shall eat this year that which grows of itself, and in the second year that which springs of the same; and in the third year sow, and reap, and plant vineyards, and eat its fruit.

Douay-Rheims - 2 Kings 19:29

And to thee, O Ezechias, this shall be a sign: Eat this year what thou shalt find: and in the second year, such things as spring of themselves: but in the third year sow and reap: plant vineyards, and eat the fruit of them.

Webster's Bible Translation

And this shall be a sign to thee, Ye shall eat this year such things as grow of themselves, and in the second year that which springeth of the same; and in the third year sow ye, and reap, and plant vineyards, and eat the fruits of it.

SEV Biblia, Chapter 19:29

Y esto te será por señal: Este año comerás lo que nacerá de suyo, y el segundo año lo que volverá a nacer de suyo; y el tercer año haréis sementera, y segaréis, y plantaréis viñas, y comeréis el fruto de ellas.

Clarke's Bible Commentary - 2 Kings 19:29

Verse 29. This shall be a sign unto thee] To
Hezekiah; for to him this part of the address is made.

Ye shall eat this year] Sennacherib had ravaged the country, and seed-time was now over, yet God shows them that he would so bless the land, that what should grow of itself that year, would be quite sufficient to supply the inhabitants and prevent all famine; and though the second year was the sabbatical rest or jubilee for the land, in which it was unlawful to plough or sow; yet even then the land, by an especial blessing of God, should bring forth a sufficiency for its inhabitants; and in the third year they should sow and plant, &c. and have abundance, &c. Now this was to be a sign to Hezekiah, that his deliverance had not been effected by natural or casual means; for as without a miracle the ravaged and uncultivated land could not yield food for its inhabitants, so not without miraculous interference could the Assyrian army be cut off and Israel saved.

Matthew Henry Commentary

Verses 20-34 - All Sennacherib's motions were under the Divine cognizance. God himsel undertakes to defend the city; and that person, that place, cannot but be safe, which he undertakes to protect. The invasion of the Assyrian probably had prevented the land from being sown that year. The next is supposed to have been the sabbatical year, but the Lord engaged tha the produce of the land should be sufficient for their support durin those two years. As the performance of this promise was to be after the destruction of Sennacherib's army, it was a sign to Hezekiah's faith assuring him of that present deliverance, as an earnest of the Lord' future care of the kingdom of Judah. This the Lord would perform, no for their righteousness, but his own glory. May our hearts be as goo ground, that his word may strike root therein, and bring forth fruit in our lives.
