SEV Biblia, Chapter 19:35
¶ Y aconteció que la misma noche salió el ángel del SEÑOR, e hirió en el campamento de los Asirios ciento ochenta y cinco mil hombres ; y cuando se levantaron por la mañana, he aquí los cuerpos de los muertos.
Clarke's Bible Commentary - 2 Kings 19:35
Verse 35. That night] The very night after the blasphemous message had been sent, and this comfortable prophecy delivered. The angel of the Lord went out] I believe this angel or messenger of the Lord was simply a suffocating or pestilential WIND; by which the Assyrian army was destroyed, as in a moment, without noise confusion or any warning. See the note 1 Kings xx. 30. Thus was the threatening, ver. 7, fulfilled, I will send a BLAST upon him; for he had heard the rumor that his territories were invaded; and on his way to save his empire, in one night the whole of his army was destroyed, without any one even seeing who had hurt them. This is called an angel or messenger of the Lord: that is, something immediately sent by him to execute his judgments.
When they arose early] That is, Sennacherib, and probably a few associates, who were preserved as witnesses and relaters of this most dire disaster. Rab-shakeh, no doubt, perished with the rest of the army.
Matthew Henry Commentary
Verses 35-37 - That night which followed the sending of this message to Hezekiah, the main body of their army was slain. See how weak the mightiest men ar before Almighty God. Who ever hardened himself against Him an prospered? The king of Assyria's own sons became his murderers. Thos whose children are undutiful, ought to consider whether they have no been so to their Father in heaven? This history exhibits a strong proo of the good of firm trust and confidence in God. He will afflict, but not forsake his people. It is well when our troubles drive us to ou knees. But does it not reprove our unbelief? How unwilling are we to rest on the declaration of Jehovah! How desirous to know in what way he will save us! How impatient when relief is delayed! But we must wai for the fulfilling of his word.
