VERSE (7) -
Da 8:18; 9:21; 10:10,18 Re 1:17

SEV Biblia, Chapter 17:7

Entonces Jess llegando, los toc, y dijo: Levantaos, y no temis.

Clarke's Bible Commentary - Matthew 17:7

Verse 7.
Jesus came and touched them] Exactly parallel to this account is Dan. viii. 18, I was in a deep sleep, i, e. (a trance) on my face towards the ground; but he TOUCHED me, and set me upright. From Jesus alone are we to expect Divine communications, and by his power only are we able to bear and improve them. It is very likely that this transfiguration took place in the night, which was a more proper season to show forth its glory than the day time, in which a part of the splendour must necessarily be lost by the presence of the solar light. Besides, St. Luke, Luke ix. 37, expressly says, that it was on the next day after the transfiguration that our Lord came down from the mount.

John Gill's Bible Commentary

Ver. 7. And
Jesus came and touched them , etc.] The disciples were at some little distance from Christ, but he observing the fear and surprise they were in, came to their relief and assistance; which he did not disdain to give, notwithstanding the glory he was covered with; but acts the part of a mediator between God and them, and lays hold on them to raise them up, whom the majesty of Gods voice had cast down: the Persic version renders it, he came and brought them to themselves; who were just fainting and swooning away, at the awfulness of the voice: and said, arise, and be not afraid : it is not the voice of an angry God, but of God well pleased with me, and in me with you; it is the voice of my God, and your God, of my Father, and your Father; arise, stand on your feet, take heart, and be of good courage, no hurt will come to you.

Matthew Henry Commentary

Verses 1-13 - Now the
disciples beheld somewhat of Christ's glory, as of the onl begotten of the Father. It was intended to support their faith, when they would have to witness his crucifixion; and would give them an ide of the glory prepared for them, when changed by his power and made lik him. The apostles were overcome by the glorious sight. Peter though that it was most desirable to continue there, and to go no more down to meet the sufferings of which he was so unwilling to hear. In this he knew not what he said. We are wrong, if we look for a heaven here upo earth. Whatever tabernacles we propose to make for ourselves in thi world, we must always remember to ask Christ's leave. That sacrific was not yet offered, without which the souls of sinful men could no have been saved; and important services were to be done by Peter an his brethren. While Peter spoke, a bright cloud overshadowed them, a emblem of the Divine presence and glory. Ever since man sinned, an heard God's voice in the garden, unusual appearances of God have bee terrible to man. They fell prostrate to the earth, till Jesu encouraged them; when looking round, they beheld only their Lord a they commonly saw him. We must pass through varied experiences in ou way to glory; and when we return to the world after an ordinance, it must be our care to take Christ with us, and then it may be our comfor that he is with us.
