SEV Biblia, Chapter 11:37
Yo pues te tomaré a ti, y tú reinarás en todas las cosas que deseare tu alma, y serás rey sobre Israel.
Clarke's Bible Commentary - 1 Kings 11:37
Verse 37. According to all that thy soul desireth] It appears from this that Jeroboam had affected the kingdom, and was seeking for an opportunity to seize on the government. God now tells him, by his prophet, what he shall have, and what he shall not have, in order to prevent him from attempting to seize on the whole kingdom, to the prejudice of the spiritual seed of David.
John Gill's Bible Commentary
Ver. 37. And I will take thee , etc.] From the low estate in which he was, to be king: and thou shall reign according to all that thy soul desireth ; he being ambitious of the kingdom, and having already formed in his mind some designs upon it: and shall be king over Israel ; the ten tribes.
Matthew Henry Commentary
Verses 26-40 - In telling the reason why God rent the kingdom from the house of Solomon, Ahijah warned Jeroboam to take heed of sinning away his preferment. Yet the house of David must be supported; out of it the Messiah would arise. Solomon sought to kill his successor. Had not he taught others, that whatever devices are in men's hearts, the counse of the Lord shall stand? Yet he himself thinks to defeat that counsel Jeroboam withdrew into Egypt, and was content to live in exile an obscurity for awhile, being sure of a kingdom at last. Shall not we be content, who have a better kingdom in reserve?
