SEV Biblia, Chapter 8:11
Y toda la gente de guerra que con él estaba, subió, y se acercó, y llegaron delante de la ciudad, y asentaron el campamento a la parte del norte de Hai; y el valle estaba entre él y Hai.
John Gill's Bible Commentary
Ver. 11. And all the people, [even the people] of war that [were] with him, and went up, and drew nigh , etc.] To the city of Ai: and came before the city ; as if they intended to besiege it, storm it, or force an entrance into it: and pitched on the north side of Ai ; which was judged fittest for the purpose: now [there was] a valley between them and Ai ; which the Rabbins call the valley of Halacah, as Jarchi says; so that they were upon a hill, at least on rising ground, and might the more easily be seen by the inhabitants of Ai, whom they wanted to draw out of their city.
Matthew Henry Commentary
Verses 3-22 - Observe Joshua's conduct and prudence. Those that would maintain their spiritual conflicts must not love their ease. Probably he went into the valley alone, to pray to God for a blessing, and he did not seek in vain. He never drew back till the work was done. Those that have stretched out their hands against their spiritual enemies, must neve draw them back.
