King James Bible - Psalms 131:2

Surely I have behaved and quieted myself, as a child that is weaned of his mother: my soul is even as a weaned child.

World English Bible

Surely I have stilled and quieted my soul, like a weaned child with his mother, like a weaned child is my soul within me.

Douay-Rheims - Psalms 131:2

If I was not humbly minded, but exalted my soul: As a child that is weaned is towards his mother, so reward in my soul.

Webster's Bible Translation

Surely I have behaved and quieted myself as a child that is weaned by his mother: my soul is even as a weaned child.

SEV Biblia, Chapter 131:2

Sino que me puse en silencio , e hice callar mi alma, sea yo como el destetado de su madre; como el destetado de mi propia vida.

Clarke's Bible Commentary - Psalms 130:2

Verse 2. I have behaved and quieted myself, as a child ] On the contrary, I have been under the rod of others, and when chastised have not complained; and my
silence under my affliction was the fullest proof that I neither murmured nor repined, but received all as coming from the hands of a just God.

My soul is even as a weaned child. ] I felt I must forego many conveniences and comforts which I once enjoyed; and these I gave up without repining or demurring.

Matthew Henry Commentary

The psalmist's humility. Believers encouraged to trust in God.

--The psalmist aimed at nothing high or great, but to be content in every condition God allotted. Humble saints cannot think so well of themselves as others think of them. The love of God reigning in the heart, will subdue self-love. Where there is a proud heart, there is commonly a proud look. To know God and our duty, is learnin sufficiently high for us. It is our wisdom not to meddle with tha which does not belong to us. He was well reconciled to every conditio the Lord placed him in. He had been as humble as a little child abou the age of weaning, and as far from aiming at high things; as entirel at God's disposal, as the child at the disposal of the mother or nurse We must become as little children, Mt 18:3. Our hearts are desirous of worldly things, cry for them, and are fond of them; but, by the grac of God, a soul that is made holy, is weaned from these things. The child is cross and fretful while in the weaning; but in a day or two i cares no longer for milk, and it can bear stronger food. Thus does converted soul quiet itself under the loss of what it loved, an disappointments in what it hoped for, and is easy whatever happens When our condition is not to our mind, we must bring our mind to ou condition; then we are easy to ourselves and all about us; then ou souls are as a weaned child. And thus the psalmist recommend confidence in God, to all the Israel of God, from his own experience It is good to hope, and quietly to wait for the salvation of the Lor under every trial __________________________________________________________________
