SEV Biblia, Chapter 15:39
Y el centurin que estaba delante de l, viendo que había expirado así clamando, dijo: Verdaderamente este hombre era el Hijo de Dios.
John Gill's Bible Commentary
Ver. 39. And when the centurion, which stood over against him , etc..] To watch him, that nobody released him, and that he did not come down from the cross himself; saw that he so cried out, and gave up the ghost ; that he cried with so loud and strong a voice, and the next moment expired: he said, truly this man was the Son of God ; and so said the rest of the soldiers that were with them, as appears from ( Matthew 27:54).
Matthew Henry Commentary
Verses 33-41 - There was a thick darkness over the land, from noon until three in the afternoon. The Jews were doing their utmost to extinguish the Sun of Righteousness. The darkness signified the cloud which the human soul of Christ was under, when he was making it an offering for sin. He did no complain that his disciples forsook him, but that his Father forsoo him. In this especially he was made sin for us. When Paul was to be offered as a sacrifice for the service saints, he could joy an rejoice, Php 2:17; but it is another thing to be offered as a sacrific for the sin of sinners. At the same instant that Jesus died, the vei of the temple was rent from the top to the bottom. This spake terror to the unbelieving Jews, and was a sign of the destruction of their churc and nation. It speaks comfort to all believing Christians, for i signified the laying open a new and living way into the holiest by the blood of Jesus. The confidence with which Christ had openly addresse God as his Father, and committed his soul into his hands, seems greatl to have affected the centurion. Right views of Christ crucified wil reconcile the believer to the thought of death; he longs to behold love, and praise, as he ought, that Saviour who was wounded and pierce to save him from the wrath to come.

Vincent's NT Word Studies
39. Son of God. Not the Son of God, which Rev. has retained, but a son of God. To the centurion Christ was a hero or demigod. See on Matthew xxvii. 54.
Robertson's NT Word Studies
15:39 {The centurion} (ho kenturiwn). A Latin word (_centurio_) used also in verse #44 and here only in the N.T. {Which stood by over against him} (ho parestekws ex enantias autou). this description alone in Mark, picturing the centurion "watching Jesus" (#Mt 27:54). {So} (houtws). With the darkness and the earthquake. See on Mt 27:54 for discussion of "the Son of God," more probably "a Son of God."
