Clarke's Bible Commentary - Psalms 139:10 Verse 10. Let burning coals ] The Chaldee considers this as spoken against Ahithophel, who was head of a conspiracy against David; and translates this verse thus: "Let coals from heaven fall upon them, precipitate them into the fire of hell, and into miry pits, from which they shall not have a resurrection to eternal life." This is a proof that the Jews did believe in a resurrection of the body, and an eternal life for that body, in the case of the righteous.
Matthew Henry Commentary Verses 8-13 - Believers may pray that God would not grant the desires of the wicked nor further their evil devices. False accusers will bring mischief upo themselves, even the burning coals of Divine vengeance. And surely the righteous shall dwell in God's presence, and give him thanks for evermore. This is true thanksgiving, even thanks-living: this use we should make of all our deliverances, we should serve God the mor closely and cheerfully. Those who, though evil spoken of and ill-use by men, are righteous in the sight of God, being justified by the righteousness of Christ, which is imputed to them, and received by faith, as the effect of which, they live soberly and righteously; thes give thanks to the Lord, for the righteousness whereby they are mad righteous, and for every blessing of grace, and mercy of life __________________________________________________________________
