SEV Biblia, Chapter 72:8
Y dominará de mar a mar, y desde el río hasta los confines de la tierra.
Clarke's Bible Commentary - Psalms 71:8
Verse 8. He shall have dominion also from sea to sea ] The best comment on this, as it refers to Solomon, may be found in 1 Kings iv. 21, 24: "And Solomon reigned over all kingdoms, from the river unto the land of the Philistines, and unto the border of Egypt; for he had dominion over all on this side the river, from Tiphsah even to Azzah, over all the kings on this side the river; and he had peace on all sides round about him." Solomon, it appears, reigned over all the provinces from the river Euphrates to the land of the Philistines, even to the frontiers of Egypt. The Euphrates was on the east of Solomon's dominions; the Philistines were westward, on the Mediterranean sea; and Egypt was on the south.
Solomon had therefore, as tributaries, the kingdoms of Syria, Damascus, Moab, and Ammon, which lay between the Euphrates and the Mediterranean. Thus he appears to have possessed all the land which God covenanted with Abraham to give to his posterity.
Unto the ends of the earth. ] Or land, must mean the tract of country along the Mediterranean sea, which was the boundary of the land on that side: but, as the words may refer to Christ, every thing may be taken in its utmost latitude and extent.
Matthew Henry Commentary
Verses 2-17 - This is a prophecy of the kingdom of Christ; many passages in it cannot be applied to the reign of Solomon. There were righteousness and peac at first in the administration of his government; but, before the en of his reign, there were troubles and unrighteousness. The kingdom her spoken of is to last as long as the sun, but Solomon's was soon at a end. Even the Jewish expositors understood it of the kingdom of the Messiah. Observe many great and precious promises here made, which wer to have full accomplishment only in the kingdom of Christ. As far a his kingdom is set up, discord and contentions cease, in families churches, and nations. The law of Christ, written in the heart disposes men to be honest and just, and to render to all their due; i likewise disposes men to live in love, and so produces abundance of peace. Holiness and love shall be lasting in Christ's kingdom. Throug all the changes of the world, and all the changes of life, Christ' kingdom will support itself. And he shall, by the graces and comfort of his Spirit, come down like rain upon the mown grass; not on that cu down, but that which is left growing, that it may spring again. Hi gospel has been, or shall be, preached to all nations. Though he need not the services of any, yet he must be served with the best. Thos that have the wealth of this world, must serve Christ with it, do goo with it. Prayer shall be made through him, or for his sake; whatever we ask of the Father, should be in his name. Praises shall be offered to him: we are under the highest obligations to him. Christ only shall be feared throughout all generations. To the end of time, and to eternity his name shall be praised. All nations shall call HIM blessed.
