Clarke's Bible Commentary - Jeremiah 48:7 Verse 7. Chemosh shall go forth into captivity] The grand national idol of the Moabites, Num. xxi. 29; Judg. xi. 24. Ancient idolaters used to take their gods with them to the field of battle. This was probably in imitation of the Israelites, who took the ark with them in such cases.
Matthew Henry Commentary The calamities of the Philistines. The Philistines had always been enemies to Israel; but the Chaldea army shall overflow their land like a deluge. Those whom God wil spoil, must be spoiled. For when the Lord intends to destroy the wicked, he will cut off every helper. So deplorable are the desolation of war, that the blessings of peace are most desirable.
