King James Bible - Exodus 14:12

Is not this the word that we did tell thee in Egypt, saying, Let us alone, that we may serve the Egyptians? For it had been better for us to serve the Egyptians, than that we should die in the wilderness.

World English Bible

Isn't this the word that we spoke to you in Egypt, saying, 'Leave us alone, that we may serve the Egyptians?' For it were better for us to serve the Egyptians, than that we should die in the wilderness."

Douay-Rheims - Exodus 14:12

Is not this the word that we spoke to thee in Egypt, saying: Depart from us that we may serve the Egyptians? for it was much better to serve them, than to die in the wilderness.

Webster's Bible Translation

Is not this the word that we told thee in Egypt, Saying, Let us alone, that we may serve the Egyptians? For it had been better for us to serve the Egyptians, than that we should die in the wilderness.

VERSE (12) -
Ex 5:21; 3:9

SEV Biblia, Chapter 14:12

¿No es esto lo que te hablamos en Egipto, diciendo: Déjanos servir a los egipcios? Que mejor nos fuera servir a los egipcios, que morir nosotros en el desierto.

Matthew Henry Commentary

Verses 10-14 - There was no way open to
Israel but upward, and thence their deliverance came. We may be in the way of duty, following God, an hastening toward heaven, yet may be troubled on every side. Some crie out unto the Lord; their fear led them to pray, and that was well. God brings us into straits, that he may bring us to our knees. Others crie out against Moses; fear set them murmuring as if God were not stil able to work miracles. They quarrel with Moses for bringing them out of Egypt; and so were angry with God for the greatest kindness ever don them; thus gross are the absurdities of unbelief. Moses says, Fear y not. It is always our duty and interest, when we cannot get out of troubles, yet to get above our fears; let them quicken our prayers an endeavours, but not silence our faith and hope. "Stand still," thin not to save yourselves either by fighting or flying; wait God's orders and observe them. Compose yourselves, by confidence in God, int peaceful thoughts of the great salvation God is about to work for you If God brings his people into straits, he will find a way to bring the out.
