SEV Biblia, Chapter 2:29
Y Abner y los suyos caminaron por la campiña toda aquella noche, y pasando el Jordán cruzaron por todo Bet-horón, y llegaron al real.
Clarke's Bible Commentary - 2 Samuel 2:29
Verse 29. They came to Mahanaim.] So they returned to the place whence they set out. See ver. 12. This was the commencement of the civil wars between Israel and Judah, and properly the commencement of the division of the two kingdoms, through which both nations were deluged with blood.
John Gill's Bible Commentary
Ver. 29. And Abner and his men walked all that night through the plain , etc.] The plain of Jordan. He marched with his men all night, lest Joab should return, and pursue him, and take vengeance on him for the death of his brother: and passed over Jordan ; at one of the fords of it: and went through all Bithron ; the name of a province or country, as Jarchi, called so perhaps from its being separated from the rest of the tribes of Israel by the river Jordan; some think the mountains of Bether were in this country, ( Song of Solomon 2:17). From Gibeon, where the battle was fought, to Bithron, according to Bunting f38 , was twenty eight miles, the which he says was in the tribe of Gad, twenty eight miles from Jerusalem northeastward, lying between Dibon and Jordan: and they came to Mahanaim : from whence they came, and where they had left Ishbosheth, ( 2 Samuel 2:8,12). From Bithron to this place, according to the same writer f39 , was sixteen miles.
Matthew Henry Commentary
Verses 25-32 - Abner appeals to Joab concerning the miserable consequences of a civi war. Those who make light of such unnatural contests, will find tha they are bitterness to all concerned. How easy it is for men to us reason, when it makes for them, who would not use it, if it mad against them! See how the issue of things alter men's minds! The sam thing which looked pleasant in the morning, at night looked dismal Those who are most forward to enter into contention, will repent befor they have done with it, and had better leave it off before it be meddled with, as Solomon advises. This is true of every sin, oh tha men would consider it in time, that it will be bitterness in the latte end! Asahel's funeral is here mentioned. Distinctions are made betwee the dust of some and that of others; but in the resurrection n difference will be made, but between the godly and ungodly, which wil remain for ever __________________________________________________________________
