VERSE (24) -
Job 19:25-27 Isa 25:8; 26:19 Eze 37:1-14 Da 12:2 Ho 6:2; 13:14

SEV Biblia, Chapter 12:24

Entonces respondiendo Jess, les dice: ¿No erris por eso, porque no sabis las Escrituras, ni la potencia de Dios?

John Gill's Bible Commentary

Ver. 24. And
Jesus answering said unto them , etc..] Which they thought he was not able to do, but would have been silenced at once by them, as many of their antagonists had been: do ye not therefore err, because ye know not the Scriptures, neither the power of God ? what is expressed in Matthew affirmatively, is here put by way of interrogation, which, with the Jews, was a more vehement way of affirming; (see Gill on Matthew 22:29).

Matthew Henry Commentary

Verses 18-27 - A right
knowledge of the Scripture, as the fountain whence all reveale religion now flows, and the foundation on which it is built, is the best preservative against error. Christ put aside the objection of the Sadducees, who were the scoffing infidels of that day, by setting the doctrine of the future state in a true light. The relation betwee husband and wife, though appointed in the earthly paradise, will not be known in the heavenly one. It is no wonder if we confuse ourselves with foolish errors, when we form our ideas of the world of spirits by the affairs of this world of sense. It is absurd to think that the livin God should be the portion and happiness of a man if he is for eve dead; and therefore it is certain that Abraham's soul exists and acts though now for a time separate from the body. Those that deny the resurrection greatly err, and ought to be told so. Let us seek to pas through this dying world, with a joyful hope of eternal happiness, an of a glorious resurrection.

Vincent's NT Word Studies

24. Therefore (dia touto). A rendering which obscures the meaning. The words point forward to the next two clauses. The reason of your error is your ignorance of the scriptures and the power of
God. Hence Rev., correctly, Is it not for this cause that ye err?

Err (planasqe). Lit., wander out of the way. Compare Latin errare. Of the wandering sheep, Matt. xviii. 12; 1 Pet. ii. 25. Of the martyrs wandering in the deserts, Heb. xi. 38. Often rendered in the New Testament deceive. See Mark xiii. 5, 6. Compare ajsterev planhtai, wandering stars (Jude 13), from which our word planet.

Robertson's NT Word Studies

12:24 {Is it not for this cause that ye err?} (ou dia touto planasqe;). Mark puts it as a question with ou expecting the affirmative answer. Matthew puts it as a positive assertion: "Ye are." planaomai is to wander astray (cf. our word _planet_, wandering stars, asteres planetai, #Jude 1:13) like the Latin _errare_ (our _error_, err). {That ye know not the scriptures} (me eidotes tas grafas). The Sadducees posed as men of superior intelligence and knowledge in opposition to the traditionalists among the Pharisees with their oral law. And yet on this very point they were ignorant of the Scriptures. How much error today is due to this same ignorance among the educated! {Nor the power of God} (mede ten dunamin tou qeou). The two kinds of ignorance generally go together (cf. #1Co 15:34).
