SEV Biblia, Chapter 1:43
¶ El siguiente día quiso Jess ir a Galilea, y halla a Felipe, al cual dijo: Sígueme.
Clarke's Bible Commentary - John 1:43
Verse 43. Philip] This apostle was a native of Bethsaida in Galilee. Eusebius says he was a married man, and had several daughters. Clemens Alexandrinus mentions it as a thing universally acknowledged that it was this apostle who, when commanded by our Lord to follow him, said, Let me first go and bury my father, Matt. viii. 21, 22. Theodouret says he preached in the two Phrygias; and Eusebius says he was buried in Phrygia Pacatiana. He must not be confounded with Philip the deacon, spoken of Acts vi. 5.
John Gill's Bible Commentary
Ver. 43. The day following , etc.] Not the day after John had pointed out Christ, as the Lamb of God, to two of his disciples; but the day after Simon had been with him, being brought by Andrew: Jesus would go forth into Galilee ; from whence he came to Jordan, to John, to be baptized by him; and which being done, and his temptations in the wilderness over, it was his will, resolution, and determination, to return to Galilee, the place of his education and conversation, till this time; and therefore chose to begin his ministry, and miracles, there, both to give honour to it, and to fulfil a prophecy in ( Isaiah 9:1,2); and besides this, he had doubtless another end in going thither: which was to call some other disciples that dwelt there: and findeth Philip ; as he was going to Galilee, or rather when in it; not by hap or chance; but knowing where he was, as the shepherd and bishop of souls, looked him up and found him out, and called him by his grace, and to be a disciple of his; (see Gill on Matthew 10:3); and saith unto him, follow me ; leave thy friends, thy calling, and business, and become a disciple of mine: and such power went along with these words, that he at once left all, and followed Christ; as the other disciples, Peter, and Andrew, James, and John, and Matthew did, as is recorded of them, though not of this; but the following history makes it appear he did.
Matthew Henry Commentary
Verses 43-51 - See the nature of true Christianity, it is following Jesus; devotin ourselves to him, and treading in his steps. Observe the objectio Nathanael made. All who desire to profit by the word of God, mus beware of prejudices against places, or denominations of men. The should examine for themselves, and they will sometimes find good wher they looked for none. Many people are kept from the ways of religion by the unreasonable prejudices they conceive. The best way to remove fals notions of religion, is to make trial of it. In Nathanael there was n guile. His profession was not hypocritical. He was not a dissembler nor dishonest; he was a sound character, a really upright, godly man Christ knows what men are indeed. Does He know us? Let us desire to know him. Let us seek and pray to be Israelites indeed, in whom is n guile; truly Christians, approved of Christ himself. Some things weak imperfect, and sinful, are found in all, but hypocrisy belongs not to believer's character. Jesus witnessed what passed when Nathanael wa under the fig-tree. Probably he was then in fervent prayer, seeking direction as to the Hope and Consolation of Israel, where no human ey observed him. This showed him that our Lord knew the secrets of his heart. Through Christ we commune with, and benefit by the holy angels and things in heaven and things on earth are reconciled and unite together __________________________________________________________________
