Y le dicen: ¿Con qué facultad haces estas cosas? ¿Y quién te ha dado esta facultad para hacer estas cosas?

Ver. 28. And say unto him, by what authority dost thou do these things ? etc..] Enter into the temple, as if he was Lord of it; and correct in such a magisterial way every thing he thought an abuse in it; do the miracles he did, as healing the lame, and blind; and take upon him to instruct the people, a work he was now engaged in: and who gave thee this authority to do these things ? Verses 27-33 - Our Saviour shows how near akin his doctrine and baptism were to thos of John; they had the same design and tendency, to bring in the gospe kingdom. These elders did not deserve to be taught; for it was plai that they contended not for truth, but victory: nor did he need to tel them; for the works he did, told them plainly he had authority from God; since no man could do the miracles which he did, unless God wer with him __________________________________________________________________

11:28 {By what authority} (en poiai exousiai). this question in all three Gospels was a perfectly legitimate one. See on ¯Mt 21:23-27 for discussion. Note present subjunctive here (hina tauta poieis), that you keep on doing these things.
