El bautismo de Juan, ¿era del cielo, o de los hombres? Respondedme.

Ver. 30. The baptism of John , etc..] The doctrine of which he was the first preacher, and the ordinance of which he was the first administrator: was it from heaven, or of men ? was it of divine or of human institution? answer me ; directly and plainly, without any shuffling, or evasion: it is a fair question, and may be answered; and the answer to it our Lord suggests would naturally lead to a proper one to their question; (see Gill on Matthew 21:25).

Verses 27-33 - Our Saviour shows how near akin his doctrine and baptism were to thos of John; they had the same design and tendency, to bring in the gospe kingdom. These elders did not deserve to be taught; for it was plai that they contended not for truth, but victory: nor did he need to tel them; for the works he did, told them plainly he had authority from God; since no man could do the miracles which he did, unless God wer with him __________________________________________________________________

11:30 {Answer me} (apokriqete moi). this sharp demand for a reply is only in Mark. See also verse #29. Jesus has a right to take this turn because of John's direct relation to himself. It was not a dodge, but a home thrust that cleared the air and defined their attitude both to John and Jesus. They rejected John as they now reject Jesus.
